Crime

Crime scene

Our social differences, overcrowded prisons, and even drugs cause all sorts of crime. This crime can lead to the formation of gangs, violence, and murder. Consider the story of the sixteen year old male, who was beat over the head with a 2x4 board, and died later at a Chicago hospital. We can't stop someone from hurting others, but we can try and use preventive measures to solve our social differences. To solve overcrowding prisons, we can build more rehabilitation facilities. These "rehab" facilities are where inmates would learn the correct behavior for society. This is preferable to crowded conditions in prison where everyone is crammed into a tiny cells; where the crime from society gets into prisons, along with gangs and drugs. When the inmates get out of a "rehab" facility, we would have to ensure that they are not living in an area where they are tempted to repeat the crime. Many times it seems like sex offenders are put only two blocks from a school, where innocent children play on the swing and teeter-totters. We shouldn't release the most dangerous inmates; however the inmates whose crimes were not as appalling as others will get a second chance. Most importantly, it is up to the parents of our children.

Parents need to be taking active roles in their children's future and ensure that they know where they are going at night. Sometimes with America's busy lifestyle, it can be difficult to keep track of even the most precious items. However, with just a little more time, you can lead your child down a path with good friends who are there for them, and not down a path of drugs and deceit. Finally, economic downturns cause crime. Families who are unable to pay their bills may sometimes steal or cause violence. If we can bring back more jobs and get Wisconsin's economy rolling again, we can lower crime rates.

In the end, if we as a society can learn each other's culture and feelings, crime rates will go down. It may not be much, but it will allow many people to be able to sleep at night.
